Role in the project

Signify will lead the use case ‘Power driver for lighting applications’ which is part of work package ‘Use Cases for greener and smarter applications’. As participant Signify will contribute to work package 5 ‘Reliability from Components to System’.

Key contribution

WP5: Reliability from Components to System
Determine the contribution of GaN devices in the overall driver reliability. Assessment and verification of the method for EoL estimation and virtual DfR optimization at module and system level based on digital twins developed by TUC for LED drivers.

WP6: Use Cases for greener and smarter applications (Power driver for lighting)
In the EU project GaNext Signify already gained experience with GaN devices in high power (1000W) LED drivers resulting in significant size reduction. It is expected that also lower power LED drivers (up to 150W) can benefit from replacing MOSfets by GaN devices. Goal is to identify the optimal topology and control choices to benefit to the max from GaN devices in low power LED drivers. High level these benefits are miniaturization and efficiency increase. Prototypes of selected concepts will be made and verified. Increasing reliability of GaN based LED drivers is part of this use case and links to work package 5.
