Imec performs world-leading research in nano-electronics and creates groundbreaking innovation in application domains such as healthcare, smart cities and mobility, logistics and manufacturing, and energy.

Company profile

Imec is a research institute headquartered in Leuven, Belgium and has distributed R&D groups at a number of Flemish universities, in the Netherlands, Taiwan, USA, China, and offices in India and Japan. In 2020, imec's revenue (P&L) totalled 680 million Euro. At imec scientists and engineers collaborate with experts from top companies, research institutes and universities creating ground-breaking innovation in domains such as healthcare, smart cities and mobility, logistics and manufacturing, and energy.

In our 12,000 m² cleanrooms and state-of-the-art labs, we’re taking nano- and digital technology to the next level. Imec has been pioneering GaN technology for more than 19 years, leveraging its state of the art 200 mm GaN platform to realize GaN power devices at lower costs while maintaining world-class performance. Our research covers GaN epitaxy as well as device engineering and processing technology.

Imec has been pioneering GaN technology for more than 19 years.

Role in the project

IMEC will lead the activities on GaN power devices and ICs up to 100 V and substrate topics in WP1 and coordinate work between different partners over the work packages. Within WP1 imec will optimize GaN power devices and ICs for 100 V and within WP2 imec will develop discrete GaN power devices for 1200 V applications.

Key contribution

IMEC’s main contribution to the project will be in device fabrication, reliability testing, device design and simulation. Related to this there will be activities on MOCVD GaN growth to help define and realize the process splits.
