Established in 2011, CEITEC BUT is a leading research institute at Brno University of Technology, and a vital member of the CEITEC Consortium, which comprises four universities and two research institutes in the South Moravia region of the Czech Republic.

With almost 500 (270FTE) staff members at CEITEC BUT, the institute operates the CEITEC Nano Research Infrastructure (part of the National Infrastructure Network), the largest clean room facility in the country, offering an open-access to advanced micro and nano-manufacturing and characterization equipment. The institute also runs a PhD school, attended by over 130 international students, and provides hands-on training in micro and nanotechnology, as well as chip design courses for integrated circuity (IC) students from other faculties in Brno. Additionally, the institute supports eighteen research groups in advanced materials and nano- and bionano- technologies and in recent years has produced around 250 peer-reviewed scientific papers annually. Since the establishment of the institute, our innovations have materialized in six startup companies, five of them in advanced instrumentation.

Role in the project

CEITEC BUT will perform exploratory research within WP2, focusing on advanced characterization techniques for detection and identification of defects in GaN.

Key contribution

We will explore i) the use of electrical contacts and heaters within transmission electron microscope, ii) perform cathodoluminescence and photoluminescence by using an optical fiber in near-field, and iii) conductive-AFM and Kelvin probe measurements within a SEM. Additionally, we will closely collaborate with THERMO and provide additional analytical support.
