Role in the project
Ballard Power Systems Europe will investigate the use of GaN (Gallium nitride) semiconductors in its Fuel Cell products. The project will test the basis for GaN applications the focus on performance and reliability of GaN power and RF technologies to meet a substantial higher utilization level covering the full supply chain from substrates to application systems and end users. A special focus will be on Ballard’s FCgen200 fuel cell module.
Ballard Power Systems Europe will provide technical expertise through workshop attendance as well as laboratory testing and reporting to evaluate the GaN power converters against its fuel cell products. It will work with technology partners to test their new GAN prototypes to benefit from the technological advances of the power electronics to introduce new/improved products. Ballard will collaborate in industrial R&D close to enable commercialization that will help Ballard overcome obstacles that are hindering GaN technology on the way toward full industrial deployment.
